Kubernetes control plane closer to home: Introducing Cloudfleet’s new Europe region

Cloudfleet launches its new EU control plane in Frankfurt, Germany, to provide true data sovereignty for GDPR compliance and reduced latency for European customers.

We have exciting news to share today, something many of you have been asking for. We are thrilled to announce the official launch of our first European Union control plane region, hosted in Frankfurt, Germany.

For our many customers across Europe, this means a faster, more responsive experience. But this milestone is about much more than just speed - it’s a fundamental deepening of our commitment to data sovereignty and our European roots.

Data sovereignty, built in

As a European company, we do not just treat data sovereignty as a box to tick on a compliance sheet - it is part of our DNA. While Cloudfleet has always been a global platform, allowing you to spin up compute nodes anywhere in the world, we are proud to see that the vast majority of you have chosen to run your workloads right here in Europe.

With Cloudfleet, you have always had the power to keep your data and applications in European locations. Today, we are bringing the brain of the operation - the Kubernetes control plane itself - to Europe as well. This ensures that every part of your cluster management, from API calls to metadata, can now reside entirely within the EU, simplifying your path to meeting regulatory requirements like GDPR.

So, what does this mean for your day-to-day work?

  1. Lower latency: If you manage your clusters from Europe, every kubectl command and API call will now be significantly faster. By processing your requests in Frankfurt instead of the United States, we reduce the physical distance your data needs to travel, resulting in a noticeably faster experience.

  2. A resilient, state-of-the-art architecture: This launch is not just a copy-paste of our existing infrastructure. We seized this opportunity to revamp our architecture, building an even more resilient, scalable, and robust foundation from the ground up.

  3. Native IPv6 for the control plane: As part of this overhaul, we are proud to announce that the Frankfurt control plane is natively accessible over IPv6. While full dual-stack networking for pods and services within clusters is on our roadmap, enabling IPv6 access to the control plane is a critical first step. This makes Cloudfleet one of the few managed Kubernetes services to offer native IPv6 support, allowing you to build truly modern, future-proof infrastructure.

How to migrate your CFKE clusters to the European region

Ready to make the switch? Here is how to get started:

For those who need assistance or are looking for more advanced features, this is a great time to consider our Pro plan. It includes a hands-on migration service managed by our team, along with our strongest SLAs and dedicated support. You can start the process by clicking the “Upgrade to Pro” button in your console.

For self-service migration, the new europe-central-1a Frankfurt region is now available during cluster creation, with the same pricing as other regions. You can create a new cluster in this region and migrate your applications at your own pace.

What’s next?

The launch of the Frankfurt region is just the beginning. The powerful new architecture introduced in europe-central-1a will soon become the standard across all our regions.

We are incredibly excited to bring this to you. You can start using the new EU (Frankfurt) region for your clusters today directly from the Cloudfleet Console.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us. We remain committed to building a cloud platform that is not only powerful and global, but also respects the sovereignty and privacy of our customers.
